UK to Launch Huawei Cyber Security Review
The UK government is soon to conduct a cyber security review of Huawei’s ability to use 5G network infrastructure for espionage. This review comes as US trade sanctions are escalating and as reports circulate of Huawei’s equipment being totally removed from core networks in the UK over the next three years. News broke in May that up to 50 members of the ruling Conservative party were willing to vote against the plan to reduce Huawei’s market share and role in 5G networks. The US has also increased pressure on the UK as its trade sanctions with China have escalated and the UK’s National Cyber Security Centre is reviewing any resulting impact on UK networks . Huawei has commented that the cyber security review is confusing following the UK’s previous commitment to approve Huawei’s role in the 5G rollout.
