UK Government gives Huawei limited 5G network approval
At the conclusion of the interminable UK Supply Chain Review vendors that are deemed to be ‘high-risk’ will be restricted from providing equipment for the core of the UK’s 5G networks and will only be allowed to provide up to 35% of the RAN equipment. These restrictions also extend to Critical National Infrastructure or particular geographic locations like military bases and nuclear sites. The UK government has sought to balance the need for enhanced connectivity with protection of national security. Huawei according to the National Cyber Security Centre’s guidelines falls under the ‘high-risk vendor’ definition and so will be allowed to provide equipment within this new framework.
