Kenyan group launches documentary in double registration
Haki na Sheria, a Kenyan civil society organisation has launched a documentary on double registration. The film highlights the plight of Somalis, a community in northern Kenya and Somalia. Following the civil war in Somalia in the 1990s, some Kenyan Somalis were registered as refugees in refugee camps in Kenya. With the digitalisation and interlinkage of the Kenyan government’s and the UNHCR’s refugee identity systems, double registered people are unable to register as Kenyan nationals since they appear as refugees. The documentary advocates for resolution of double registration by the deregistration of Kenyan nationals from the refugee database.
