Telia to remove all Huawei equipment in Lithuania
Sweden’s Telia Company will replace all Huawei 4G telecoms equipment in Lithuania and will not engage Huawei to implement 5G networks due to the current geopolitical situation. Sweden along with several European countries excluding Lithuania, have restricted the involvement of Chinese telecom providers in 5G networks for security reasons. Lithuania’s counter-intelligence agencies in February advised that Huawei equipment should not be included in critical infrastructure as Huawei is legally required to share information with Chinese intelligence. Telia will exchange Huawei’s 4G equipment in 2,000 broadcast stations across Lithuania with Sweden’s Ericsson during a network upgrade to include 5G capacity. China has denied allegations of security vulnerabilities and stated it would act to protect the firms’ legitimate interests.
