White House pledges to protect US telecoms network from Huawei
The Biden Administration pledged to safeguard telecom networks in the USA from untrusted vendors like Huawei that pose a threat to the US national security. White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki told reporters in a daily briefing that the administration will ensure that ‘American telecommunications networks…do not use equipment from untrusted vendors’ and work with its allies to secure their telecom networks. Psaki also said that the government will make investments to expand production of telecom equipment by trusted US and allied companies. According to a Reuters report, Psaki’s remarks come after Governor of Rhode Island Gina Raimondo, who is nominated to head the US Department of Commerce by the administration, refused to commit to keeping Huawei on the US economic blacklist overseen by the department.
