Ottawa to create new regulator for monitoring content takedown and protect children online
The public safety minister in Ottawa has stated that the liberal government will create a legislation to appoint a regulator responsible for content takedown by online platforms. These include removal of harmful content, including child sexual images and intimate images that are shared without consent.
Child sexual abuse and exploitation poses jurisdictional challenges as they are normally cross border in nature and many times victims face challenge in content takedown from online platforms. To address these challenges, the regulator is being proposed.
