Romania approves law to potentially exclude Huawei from future 5G networks
According to a report, Romania’s government has approved a law that aims to exclude Huawei from the future 5G mobile network. The draft proposals stated telecommunications companies may not be considered in the country based on risks, threats, or vulnerabilities to the country’s national security. Telecom companies will have to request the opinion of the Supreme Defense Council in order to supply technologies and equipment to 5G networks in Romania. Romania has put forward a joint statement with the USA in August 2019, pledging to use only ‘clean’ equipment and technology for 5G networks. The law must still be approved by Romania’s parliament before it can be enacted.
