UN to enhance the use of digital technologies in peacekeeping
In a recent statement, the UN secretary-general Antonio Guterres announced that the UN intends to increase the use of digital technologies in peacekeeping. Delivered as part of the Security Council debate on technology and peacekeeping, the secretary-general highlighted that the UN needs to employ existing and emerging technologies to enhance the capacity of headquarter and field missions to carry out their mandates efficiently. Initiated in 2018, the peacekeeping digital transformation strategy will strengthen further digital initiatives across the UN system to protect over 90,000 peacekeepers under 12 operations.
