African leaders commit to reduce internet cost by 50%
According to a news report African leaders have committed to slashing Internet cost by 50% under a major project slated to commence at the beginning of 2021. An alliance to make this ambition a reality is composed of 30 member countries representing over 750 million people and over 40 private sector members. A series of virtual meetings by the board of the alliance and chaired by President Paul Kagame of India was what culminated in a series of decisions including slashing Internet cost by half.
The project which is aimed at solving the problem of lack of affordable Internet in Africa will be implemented through a special purpose vehicle.
