American Bar Association suffers major data breach
Almost 1.5 million members were affected by this breach.
The American Bar Association (ABA) has suffered a data breach after hackers compromised its network and accessed members’ credentials to log into an outdated membership system.
The ABA began notifying its members on 20 April 2023 that a hacker had been detected on its network on 17 March 2023. The ABA said it was not a ransomware attack and no corporate or private information had been stolen, however, the threat remains of the credentials for 1,466,000 members being abused.
The ABA is the largest association of lawyers and legal professionals globally. This incident comes after several law firms, including Covington & Burling and Proskauer Rose, hit the headlines recently following cyber breaches that exposed sensitive client data.
