Apple to reduce app store fees for small developers while facing antitrust investigations
Apple has announced it will reduce its App Store commission rate by 15% for app developers with less than USD$1 million in annual net sales. Currently, Apple’s commission rates take 30% from the total price of paid apps and in-app purchases. The new rates apply from 1 January 2021. The move comes after several national antitrust authorities have initiated investigations against Apple’s business practices on its App Store. Moreover, Facebook and Fortnite maker Epic Games have suited Apple over the company’s dominant position and its 30% fee.
