Apple sends a letter to all its customers calling for a public discussion on encryption
After the US court ordered Apple to assist in FBI attempts to unlock a cell phone, Apple’s Tim Cook has written a public letter to all its customers in the hope to generate a public debate on encryption. The first paragraph reads, ‘The United States government has demanded that Apple take an unprecendented step which threatens the security of our customers. We oppose this order, which has implications far beyond the legal case at hand. This moment calls for public discussion, and we want our customers and people around the country to understand what is at stake.’ Read the full letter here.
