Australia largest port operator hit by a cyber attack
The cyberattack disrupted services for three days.
DP World Australia, a subsidiary of Dubai’s state-owned DP World, and one of Australia’s largest port operators managing 40% of goods flow in and out of the country, announced that it had faced a cyberattack affecting its operations for three days.
In a statement, DB World shared that ‘Operations resumed at the company’s ports across Australia at 9 a.m. today (2200 GMT, Sunday) following successful tests of key systems overnight’. The company has not shared if it received any ransomware demand.
On spotting the breach in its system on Friday, DP World immediately disconnected the internet, which significantly impacted freight movements. While the company expects to move around 5000 containers through its Australian terminals in a day, due to ongoing investigations and to secure its network, resuming normal logistical operations may take some time.
Speaking to ABC Radio, the Australian Cyber Security Minister Clare O’Neil stated, ‘(The DP World breach) does show how vulnerable we have been in this country to cyber incidents and how much better we need to work together to make sure we keep our citizens safe.’
