Austrian Data Protection Authority issued a decision against Clearview AI for infringing GDPR
The Austrian Data Protection Authority (DSB) ruled against Clearview AI for processing personal data violating the GDPR. The DSB ordered the company to erase the complainant’s personal data.
An Austrian citizen lodged a complaint to the Austrian Data Protection Authority (DSB) against Clearview AI for processing personal data without consent. Clearview AI owns a database that includes over 30 billion worldwide facial images extracted from web sources. Through AI systems, the company created profiles based on the biometric data extracted from these images. In this case, the company processed the complainant’s facial images without consent. The complaint was sent to the DSB, which found that Clearview AI violated the complainant’s personal data under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) by processing their data without consent. Thus, the DSB ordered the company to erase the complainant’s data.
