Brazil regulator: Huawei role in Brazil 5G up to national security chief

Brazil’s telecoms regulator during bandwidth auction preparations for 5G has indicated that the decision concerning any potential security matters related to the use of Huawei’s technology is the responsibility of the President’s National Security Advisor. The 5G auction that will take place later this year in either November or December once confirmed is expected to be the largest 5G spectrum worldwide to date. The Brazilian government has not put forth an official position on the involvement of Huawei thus far and there are concerns about the impact on military cooperation with the United States if they include the Chinese telecom provider.
