CETA under evaluation after first year of implementation
EU Trade Commissioner Cecilia Malmström met with Canadian Minister of International Trade Diversification, Jim Carr, to evaluate the first year of implementation of the Canada-European Union Comprehensive and Economic Trade Agreement (CETA). In a joint communiqué, the two sides highlighted progress in three main areas: small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), climate change, and gender. The EU and Canada committed to set up ‘contact points’ and web tools that will support SMEs efforts at using and benefiting from CETA. According to a report issued by Global Affairs Canada, two-way goods and services in Canada-EU trade increased by over six percent between October 2017 and June 2018 compared to the previous year.
