China and U.S. both want a stake in Cuba’s Internet growth
While the US government is expanding its economic relations with Cuba, China is increasing its efforts to assist in building Cuba’s Internet infrastructure. Cuba announced in January that it was launching a project to offer broadband Internet in Old Havana, where residents will be able to order Internet services operated by Chinese telecom operator Huawei Technology Co. Ltd. While Cuba’s partnership with Huawei is growing, Google’s Vice President Vint Cerf visited the country and spoke ‘to an audience of Communications Ministry officials and recent computer science graduates.’ Obama’s visit to Cuba on 21-22 March will most likely further elaborate on the coopreation between Cuba and American technology companies.
