Chinese government blocks new social network Clubhouse
US social media platform Clubhouse was blocked by Chinese authorities after it attracted an unknown number of citizens to partake in dialogue on political and human rights topics. Clubhouse is an audio-only social media and allows individuals to listen to debates and interviews that are similar to conference-call rooms. It became popular in China and local users seized the chance to discuss highly sensitive topics such as political tensions in Hong Kong, Taiwan, and the persecution of Muslim groups in China.
