Complaint files against Nigerian government for data protection violations
According to OneTrust Data Guidance, the Digital Rights Lawyers Initiative has filed a lawsuit at the Nigerian Federal High Court against the Federal Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment for processing citizens’ data on their portal. The complaint states that the minister is in violation of Section 37 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria for processing personal data on the portal. In addition, the complaint argues that the minister’s failure to publish a privacy policy constitutes a violation of the Nigeria Data Protection Regulation (NDPR), and that failure to provide information on the portal related to the processing of personal data in a concise, transparent, and intelligible form also constitutes a violation of the NDPR.
