Dominican Republic cancels Huawei project
The Dominican Republican government has cancelled an agreement signed years ago with Huawei that was aimed at strengthening the relationship between the Dominican Republic and China. The cancellation comes after a 10-day tour by US Undersecretary for Economic Growth, Energy and Environment, Keith Krach who also visited Central and South American countries like Brazil, Chile, Ecuador and Panama promoting the United States’ Clean Network initiative. The US Department of State defined this initiative as “The Trump Administration’s comprehensive approach to safeguarding the nation’s assets including citizens’ privacy and companies’ most sensitive information from aggressive intrusions by malign actors, such as the Chinese Communist Party.”
