Egypt to launch an app to facilitate e-waste collection
The Egyptian government plans to launch a mobile application to facilitate e-waste collection in the country. The app would enable people to exchange their obsolete electronics for discount vouchers for the purchase of new electronic devices.
The government also aims to prevent e-waste from being managed by the informal sector, as a significant amount of waste is disposed of in an unsafe environment. To this end, the Egyptian Ministry of the Environment is assessing and validating the approvals of electrical waste treatment companies.
