Encryption: A Matter of Human Rights
A new report from Amnesty International gives Amnesty’s first official position on encryption and human rights, warning that ‘Government attacks on the encryption of online communication threaten human rights around the world’, at the same time the US government apparently has found a way to unlock the Apple iPhone.
The briefing, Encryption: A Matter of Human Rights, holds the position that Internet users ‘should be able to encrypt their communications and personal data as an essential protection of their rights to privacy and free speech’.
