ENISA to become EU Agency for Cybersecurity
The European Parliament, the Council of the European Union, and the European Commission reached a political agreement on the Cybersecurity Act, that will strengthen the mandate of the European Union Agency for Network and Information Security (ENISA). It will become the EU Agency for Cybersecurity with a permanent mandate and more human and financial resources. Also, ENISA will be responsible for the annual Europe-wide cybersecurity exercises to enhance EU level preparedness to respond to cyber incidents. Finally, the agency will participate in the Cybersecurity Certification Framework to prepare certification schemes with the expert assistance and close co-operation of national certification authorities.
The Cybersecurity Act has to be formally approved by the European Parliament and the Council of Europe in spring 2019.
