Estonia backed-up national data in its data embassy in Luxemburg
The world’s first data embassy was created in Luxembourg. It will store copies of Estonia’s important databases and registers in municipality of Betzdorf. Its purpose is to ensure the continuity of the government and its services in cases of severe cyber-attacks – and even the conventional war – thanks to a back-up site outside its borders. Data backed up in Luxembourg consist of ten priority databases, including the information system of the Governmental Payments Office (the Estonian treasury), the pensions insurance register, the business register, the population register, the cadastre and the identity documents database, ERR reports. The Estonian data embassy will have the same protection and immunity as the traditional embassies, Estonian world reports.
