Etsy CEO says Amazon is trying to ‘wipe out its competitors’ by backing California consumer protection bill
According to a news report, the CEO of American e-commerce website Etsy, Josh Silverman says Amazon’s support of California’s new consumer protection bill amounts to anti-competitive behaviour to wipe out its competitors. According to the report, Amazon has given conditional support to the bill which seeks to hold electronic retail marketplaces to the same standards as brick and mortar retailers. This position is opposed by other e-commerce firms such as Etsy, eBay, and other industry players who are of the view that the existing consumer protection law provides adequate protection to consumers. Further, it is the position of the other firms that the new bill, if passed into law could stifle small businesses that sell products online.
