EU Commission fines PC gaming platforms for geo-blocking
The European Commission has fined Valve and 5 other PC game platforms a total of €7.8 million over their geo-blocking practices. These game platforms restricted sales of video games based on the geographical location of users within the EU. They also charged different prices for users in eastern and western EU countries. The practice of geo-blocking within the EU breaches EU antitrust rules, which ultimately do not allow such differentiation in the access of goods and services in the European Economic Area (EEA).
