EU commits over €55 million to digital health tech for COVID-19
The European Commission will provide funding of €55.2 million to 13 projects that utilise digital tools and artificial intelligence (AI) to deliver new solutions to protect healthcare workers, detect and prevent the spread of COVID-19, and improve intensive care, as part of Europe’s fight against the pandemic. The Commission launched a call for expression of interest in order to strengthen public health readiness and response to the pandemic, and accelerate the deployment and market uptake of sophisticated digital health technologies. The selected projects covers the following complementary areas: (a) Using telemedicine to assist intensive care for those who have COVID-19; (b) delivering new devices and tools for faster, cheaper, and easier diagnosis of COVID-19; (c) using telemedicine and AI to diagnose and monitor patients safely; (d) protecting healthcare workers through new technologies; and (e) supporting and fostering the uptake of innovative tools and technologies developed by small companies.
