EU officials set to hold high-level discussions with OpenAI CEO
In the upcoming weeks, Ursula von der Leyen, the EC president, and Thierry Breton, the EU industry chief, have scheduled meetings with Sam Altman, OpenAI’s CEO.
According to a spokesperson from the European Commission (EC), Ursula von der Leyen, the President of the European Commission, is scheduled to meet with Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, later this week. However, no further details regarding the meeting were provided by the EC.
Another EU official, the EU industry chief, Thierry Breton, is also scheduled to meet Sam Altman in San Francisco next month. The revealed agenda behind the meeting is to encourage OpenAI’s participation in a coalition consisting of companies from Europe and beyond. Together, they would collaborate on a voluntary AI pact ahead of new regulations to foster the development and implementation of responsible AI practices among participating companies.
In a recent development, Thierry Breton engaged in similar discussions with Sundar Pichai, Google’s Chief Executive, and mutually agreed to collaborate on a voluntary AI pact.
