EU only monitoring virtual currency, not regulating yet
According to an official from the European Commission, cited by Reuters, the EU does not plan to regulate ‘hyped’ virtual currencies for now, but rather only monitor them. This is because the EU is trying first to collect all relevant information and better understand what is happening in the area of virtual currencies; this is said to be essential for avoiding failure when potentially regulating. The official said that, while the Commission is looking into how to prevent activities like money laundering involving virtual currencies, there is no reason to rush with regulatory measures for now.
