European Parliament envisions European Internet for drafting Digital Services Act
European Parliament’s committee on the Internal Market and Consumer Protection issued a report in preparation for the new Digital Services Act to govern online services in the EU. The report lays out predictions for the nearest ten years and suggests recommendations for action. Thus, the first recommendation contains the proposal to create an action plan for a European Cloud that would foster the digital ecosystem according to the EU standards: ‘democratic values, data protection, data accessibility, transparency, and user-friendliness’.
Foreign web services are supposed to be included in the cloud if they match these standards. Otherwise, the European cloud will serve as a firewall, blocking off services with unlawful conduct, while boosting European companies.
