Eurostat report claims 1 in 4 internet users in EU experienced security problems in 2015
In light of the Safer Internet Day (9 February 2016), Eurostat – EU’s statistical office – released a document listing the security issues in the European Union in 2015. A few conclusions:
- 25% of the European Union’s internet users has faced online security problems, including viruses, abuse of personal information, financial losses and children accessing inappropriate websites.
- Security concerns kept 19% of users from shopping online, 18% from carrying out banking activities and 13% from accessing the Internet with mobile devices in places other than their home.
- Internet users are most affected by security issues in Croatia (42%) and Hungary (39%), while the lowest share of internet users experiencing security related problems are in the Czech Republic (10%) and the Netherlands (11%).
