Facebook is building a subsea cable to improve connectivity in Africa
Facebook has announced that it is working with its partners to deploy the most comprehensive undersea cable that will ensure that the whole African continent is connected to a faster Internet. According to Facebook, it is motivated to embark on the project since connectivity is at the heart of its mission, and they wish to give people the power to build their communities. When completed, the project which is being implemented in partnership with leading African and global operators, ‘will deliver much-needed internet capacity, redundancy, and reliability across Africa; supplement a rapidly increasing demand for capacity in the Middle East; and support further growth of 4G, 5G, and broadband access for hundreds of millions of people’.
