Facebook Oversight Board issues first five decisions
The Facebook Oversight Board has issued their first decisions on user complaints regarding content takedown, overturning four decisions and upholding one. It has also issued nine non-binding policy recommendations regarding Facebook’s content moderation.
Facebook was given seven days to follow the Oversight Board’s decisions and restore the taken down posts. However, the company ultimately does not have to follow the decisions of its Oversight Board.
The Oversight Board has been criticised by its opponents for being part of Facebook’s public relations effort instead of addressing hate speech and content moderation issues on the platform.
