Facebook refers suspension of Trump account to its Oversight Board
The Facebook Oversight Board accepted a case referral from Facebook to examine their decision to indefinitely suspend former US President Donald Trump’s accounts on Facebook and Instagram. Facebook has also requested policy recommendations from the Oversight Board on suspensions when the user is a political leader.
The suspension of Trump’s account will be the highest profile and most controversial decision the Oversight Board will consider so soon after commencing their work, according to NPR.
While the recommendations of the Oversight Board are not binding, Facebook is looking for more guidance on how to make tough decisions related to the speech of politicians and world leaders.
