First legal challenge in Singapore after ‘Fake News Law’
Singapore’s Protection from Online Falsehoods and Manipulation Act (POFMA) implemented in October 2019, demands that individuals and organisations amend posts that the government considers to be false or misleading. Since POFMA was implemented it has been used four times, all against opposition figures. The Singapore Democratic Party (SDP) was ordered to correct some of their Facebook posts, that allegedly contained false claims. The SDP stand firm by the accuracy of the information on the post. They appealed unsuccessfully and now are taking legal action to get the government to retract the correction order
