France: CNIL proposes age verification systems
The CNIL in France suggests implementing secure age verification systems complying with GDPR rules, emphasizing the use of trusted third-party systems ensuring privacy and anonymity for a reliable and privacy-friendly user age verification process.
The French data protection authority, the Commission nationale de l’informatique et des libertés (CNIL), has published its recommendations for devising age verification systems, pursuant to the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation which carries data minimisation and purpose limitation requirements.
CNIL suggested using trusted third-party systems that provide triple privacy protection and adopt anonymity practices to be used for verifying users age. In the recommendations, CNIL states that it is urgent to set up an appropriate system of age verification for ensuring ‘more efficient, reliable and privacy-friendly devices’.
