G7 Interior Ministers’ meeting addresses terrorist use of Internet
The G7 Interior Ministers’ meeting in Ischia, Italy, discussed the prevention of online terrorist content, together with representatives of Facebook, Google, Microsoft and Twitter. The meeting resulted in a Joint Communiqué, which emphasises the importance of ‘building mutual trust’ with the Internet industry and advocates ‘the use of automated technology for the rapid detection and removal of terrorist content’. The G7 also committed to ‘explore the design and implementation of a global law enforcement platform, hosted by Interpol’ to investigate terrorist content. According to Italy’s interior minister Marco Minniti, these are ‘important first steps‘.
