Gay emojis to be blocked in Indonesia?
Recently developed gay emojis have become a controversial topic in Indonesia. The Indonesian government has announced that it wants to block the same-sex emojis from the messaging apps, as it considers it to be ‘a matter of political stability‘. A spokesman of the Indonesian government said in a statement that ‘the ministry is appreciative of LINE Indonesia for their understanding and discretion in dealing with matters that could potentially cause public unrest, especially the concerns of mothers for their children in terms of the negative influence the circulation of these LGBT stickers could cause.’ For more information, see Foreign Policy and the Financial Times.
