Google opens AI centre in Ghana
Following up on an initial announcement made in June 2018, Google has recently opened its first artificial intelligence (AI) research centre in Africa, based in Accra, Ghana. The centre will bring AI researchers and engineers together and provide them the necessary tools to develop AI technologies. The centre aims to help address some of the challenges faced by the African continent in areas such as healthcare and agriculture with AI. Google also intends to offer grants to students and academics interested in AI, and co-operate with researchers and research centres at African universities.
