Group-IB researchers found that OPERA1ER stole US$11 million from banks and telecommunications companies. The threat actor committed 30 targeted attacks against organisations in Africa, Latin America, and Asia between 2019-21.
Cybersecurity research experts from the Group-IB indicated in their report that a threat actor named OPERA1ER stole at least US$11 million since 2019 in 30 targeted attacks. It is found that the threat actor attacked banks and telecommunications companies in Africa, Latin America, and Asia between 2019-2021 via phishing emails that carried Remote Access Trojans (RATs), to steal their credentials. Group-IB provided guiding tools for mitigating such attacks, as it found that most of the organisations were attacked twice, thus showing the need to enhance their defence responses.
