The IANA stewardship transition further questioned by US congressmen
The Chairmen of the Commerce and Judiciary Committees in the US Senate and House of Representatives have sent a letter to the US Attorney General and the Department of Commerce Secretary, asking them to reconsider the US government plans to transition the IANA functions on 1 October. The letter outlines a series of questions and concerns that the US administration is asked to address: the accountability of the ICANN staff, unresolved issues regarding ICANN’s jurisdiction after the transition, ICANN’s post-transition antitrust status, and the lack of clear legal certainty as to whether the termination of the IANA functions contract constitutes the relinquishment of US government property.
