ILO Group releases framework for implementing AI in K-12 education
The 31-page guide provides educators and state leaders with information and resources on adopting AI technology in K-12 education.
ILO Group, an education strategy and policy consulting firm, has introduced a comprehensive ‘Framework for Implementing Artificial Intelligence in K–12 Education’ aimed at helping educators and state leaders integrate AI technology into educational settings. The 31-page guide emphasises AI’s role as a supportive tool while ensuring human direction, oversight, and quality assurance.
The framework covers various aspects of AI implementation and is divided into two parts:
- Part 1, titled ‘District-wide AI Areas of Consideration,’ delves into political, operational, technical, and fiscal considerations, including AI policy documents, digital literacy curriculum, technology audit, and AI budgeting.
- Part 2, ‘Department-Specific AI Applications,’ focuses on risk profiles and AI applications in curriculum instruction, special education, student support services, and other areas.
ILO plans to release a state-level AI guide shortly, further supporting educational institutions in navigating AI integration. Julia Rafal-Baer, CEO of ILO, highlighted the significance of AI in reshaping education, stressing that the framework aims to empower leaders with the knowledge needed to make informed decisions that will shape the future of learning.

The guide, designed to evolve alongside new AI developments, is a valuable resource for educators and state education leaders. The absence of clear policies exacerbates issues such as disparities in students’ proficiency in AI compared to teachers, plagiarism, explicit AI deepfakes, and other related problems, highlighting the need for comprehensive guidelines.
Furthermore, the students’ increased use of chatbots raises concerns about the education system’s effectiveness, particularly regarding detecting AI-generated text and ethical considerations. These concerns stress the need to balance innovative pedagogy with traditional approaches, acknowledging the challenges of implementing such changes within formal education systems.
