India charges universities for online learning
India’s education regulators have proposed that higher-educational institutions should be asked to deposit 15% of tuition fees for offering courses within the government’s online learning scheme Swayam which includes hosting the courses on a dedicated platform. The University Grants Commission of India has ratified the proposal in a recent meeting, saying that such measures are necessary to ensure the sustainability of the Swayam scheme which currently provides access to about 2000 courses from top universities for free.
