Internet disrupted in Iran on anniversary of fuel protests
Iran has witnessed yet another disruption to Internet services in the country. The outages, which were recorded between 7:30pm and 10:30pm local time on 16 November 2020, were captured in a report by the Netblocks Internet Observatory using live network data. According to the report, the network metrics showed a reduction in connection speeds and signal quality across multiple networks in Iran lasting three hours. The report further noted that the disruption occurred on ‘the day of the first anniversary of the 2019 Internet blackout in Iran, which was imposed as thousands of demonstrators took to the streets in protest of rising fuel prices and political restrictions of personal freedoms.’
