Italy’s competition authority takes measures against META over copyright case
Italy’s competition authority has taken measures against the Meta platform over an alleged copyright violation that harms Italian music artists.
The Italian Competition Authority stated that it had taken measures against Meta Platform over an alleged copyright violation against Italian music artists. This follows Meta’s failure to renew its copyright licenses with the Italian Society of Authors and Publishers (SIAE), resulting in the blockage of all songs under SIAE’s books since 16 March. The Italian Competition Authority ordered Meta to resume negotiations with SIAE and provide all necessary information to allow SIAE to restore the commercial balance with Meta. Additionally, prior to SIAE’s authorization, Meta will have to fix the availability of musical content on Facebook and Instagram.
