Netflix explains its move towards encrypting video streams
In a recent blog post, Netflix explains its move towards using HTTPS to encrypt the transport of the video content it streams. The company says that, in addition to the currently used security mechanisms aimed to encrypt customer information, search queries, and other confidential data, it has started, over the past year, to add Transport Level Security (TSL) to video streams. This is done in order to help protect users’ privacy and ’ensure that they are ‘safe from eavesdropping by anyone who might want to record their viewing habits’. Netflix expects that the majority of streaming sessions will be using TLS encryption by the end of 2016.
