One billion medical images exposed online
According to TechCrunch, around one billion medical images containing the personal health information of patients are now available on the Internet. These medical images include for instance X-rays, ultrasounds and CT scans, among which around half belongs to patients in the United States. This situation is caused by unprotected servers in hospitals and doctors’ office, to store patient medical images, and can negatively impact patients with greater risk of insurance fraud and identity theft.
