One-third of 12-15 year olds have encountered hate speech in the past year
According to research from Ofcom, one in three British Internet users aged 12-15 have encountered ‘hate speech’ on the Internet during the past year. Ofcom defined hate speech as ‘anything hateful on the internet that has been directed at a particular group of people based on, for instance, their gender, religion, disability, sexuality or gender identity’. UK’s National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children said the finding was ‘very worrying’.
