Personal data protection of children regulation comes into effect in China
The regulation to protect children’s personal data titled ‘Measures on Online Protection of Children’s Personal Data’ has come into effect in China. The regulation applies to the personal data of children under the age of 14 and (a) requires parental consent prior to collection of information; (b) online companies to appoint a specific individual to be in charge of protecting the personal data of children (c) reporting of data breaches affecting data of children.
However, it is unclear how the regulation will apply to service providers located outside China.
