Proposed copyright directive attracts mixed reactions
The new copyright proposals by the European Commission have been met with mixed reactions. While President Jean-Claude Juncker emphasised that the aim is for authors to be paid fairly for their work, Google believes there are worrying elements: ‘Today’s proposal suggests that works including text, video, images and more must be filtered by online services. This would effectively turn the internet into a place where everything uploaded to the web must be cleared by lawyers before it can find an audience.’ Mozilla shared a similar concern, as did several groups of authors and artists.
